Hello LandMark

What permits are needed for roadwork or traffic control?

Local Municipal or Panchayat Approval

Any road construction—especially if it connects to a public road—requires prior permission from the local governing body.

  • Approval for road layout and alignment connecting to public infrastructure
  • Consent from local urban development or gram panchayat office
  • Submission of engineering drawings and site plans for review

Public Works Department (PWD) Clearance

If the road connects to or impacts a state or national road, clearance is needed from the PWD or Highways Department.

  • Permit for excavation near or across public roads
  • NOC for entry/exit points on major roads (especially highways)
  • Compliance with state road construction standards and width norms

Traffic Management and Safety Permissions

If the construction affects public traffic flow, additional permissions are required for managing temporary detours or traffic diversions.

  • Traffic police approval for temporary road closures or diversions
  • Submission of a traffic management plan if public access is affected
  • Safety signage and barricade permits to meet legal construction zone standards
